Sundae Fun Day Kit!

It’s that time of year again already- time to say goodbye to the wonderful men and women who have taught, nurtured, led, and practically raised our children for the past year! In Isla’s case this means bidding farewell to four incredible women who stood by Isla through her “terrific” (or some other choice words) twos and were a great support to our family through all the ups and downs of the past year. Of course I thank them on a daily basis when I pick her up for all they’ve done that day, but I just can’t say goodbye without a little parting gift.

After much online research it seems that teachers really appreciate handwritten notes and gift cards. No problem, except Isla can’t yet write and I need to have a bit more fun than that. Cue fun summer gift idea that works for teachers, friends, neighbours, coworkers, basically anyone who loves ice cream…Isla’s Lazy Sundae Kit! (Didn’t think of Sundae Fun Day Kit until just now, oh well!)

Here’s how we made it:

1. Shop:

Hit up a store like Bulk Barn or similar bulk candy/food store to collect ingredients. In the event they don’t carry everything you need, a grocery store will also need to be visited. You can let your imagination run wild, but here’s what our kit includes:

  • Chocolate sauce
  • Caramel sauce
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Sprinkles
  • Gummy bears
  • Cookie dough chocolate bar
  • Mini ice cream cups and spoons

We also bought:

  • Fun cardboard totes
  • Small (125mL) canning jars
  • Ziplock snack size bags
  • Avery 2″ round labels

    2. Make:

Divide sauces and cherries into canning jars:

Divide dry toppings into snack sized Ziploc bags.

3. Create:

Using the free online Avery template, create your own fun labels. I used a photo of Isla enjoying a huge ice cream cone:

and added a fun description of each of the toppings. SUNDAE FUN DAY LABELS
4. Write:

I wrote up a letter to each teacher thanking them for the incredible year, listed the specific areas where they really helped Isla, included a list of her favourite memories and described the Lazy Sundae Kit. I attached this to the outside of each tote on some curly string.

5. Gift:

Since the kit is about the teacher getting to enjoy a “Lazy Sundae” we also included a gift card to Chapter’s so they can pick out a new book- who doesn’t love to sit with a new book and an ice cream sundae?! I attached a note indicating that Isla wanted to pick out a book but I told her she may have different tastes from those of her teachers (true story!).

Well there you have it, a gift that’s as fun to make as it is to receive! And for those of you thinking I have too much time on my hands, think again- four kits took just under an hour to prepare, not including tacking on items to the grocery list.

Happy giving!
